TIGNISH -- Bubble soccer is coming to the Tignish Irish Moss Festival.
Not sure what it is? Well, it’s regular soccer but with a twist: all players are harnessed into large inflated…bubbles. It involves a lot more checking than the original game and scoring goals seems to be secondary to the fun. Interested participants can simple google “bubble soccer” to learn more about the fun activity.
Because players are harnessed into giant bubble suits, someone inevitably gets knocked down upon contact with another bubble. They roll end over end until they get their feet under them again and maybe, in the meantime, someone has actually moved the soccer ball into scoring position.
Chancey Gaudette, coordinator of the Irish Moss Festival committee said two adult teams and two children’s teams are already signed up for a bubble soccer tournament which is set to get underway Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m. on the Tignish Credit Union Arena grounds. She’s hoping for four teams in each category. Bent Elements is supplying 24 bubbles for the tournament.
The company is also bringing other fun to the festival, including Euro Bungee which can accommodate 40 to 48 people per hour, four at a time. There will also be inflatable jousting and air bounces.
