UNIONVALE -- West Prince RCMP continue to investigate the Saturday morning vandalism that occurred at a Unionvale business and the owners’ residence. Vandals broke into the Western Welding shop, dumped paint cans on tools, equipment and welding projects, cut lines for portable welders and turned on welding tanks. Outside they smashed windows and windshields in five vehicles including two farm tractors, slashed tires and broke a window in the owners’ house.
The incident was reported to 9-1-1 around 2 a.m. after the owners were awakened by the breaking of their dining room window.
Const. Matt LeFurgey said police are still actively investigating the file. He invites anyone with information to share on the matter to call the West prince detachment or CrimeStoppers.
Police and firefighters were on scene until daylight on Saturday and a police service dog joined the investigation. Fire fighters were called in because of safety concerns caused by the paint fumes and the open welding tanks. Const. LeFurgey said evidence at the scene has been seized and sent to the police lab for analysis.
