Summerside city council approves street names

SUMMERSIDE - Beginning in July, motorists travelling along the Summerside waterfront will be driving on a newly dedicated roadway - Heather Moyse Drive.

 

Summerside city council has given its approval to rename Harbour Drive, Heather Moyse Drive in honour of the two-time Olympic gold medalist from Summerside.

The official renaming will take place July 1as part of the city’s Canada Day celebrations.

Four new streets were also assigned names, two of them in honour of veterans.

Two private streets in Woodridge Place Mobile Home Park will be named in memory of Earl J. Watson, Watson Avenue; and John Hensley, Hensley Avenue.

A third Street in then park will be named Hinton Street in honour of J.S. Hinton, commissioner of Summerside Waterworks in 1908.

A fourth private street off Duke Street will be named MacCormack Avenue in honour of the family name of Angus MacCormack.
