SLEMON PARK –  “I’m wearing red because the cops died.”

Children from the Little Angels Day Care held a parade in honour of the three fallen Codiac RCMP officers. The children all wore red and carried red balloons. Three of the balloons were released in memory of the officers.

Those words came from Brianna Baglole who, along with 10 other pre-kindergarten students at the Little Angles Day Care, spoke about what had happened in Moncton last week.

About 24 children from the day care, wore red in honour and memory of the three Codiac RCMP officers slain in Moncton on Wednesday.

The children didn’t forget the families of the three officers.

Asked what’s ahead for the families, the children said, “they cry because the cops died, their dad died.”

The children helped create three posters two reading, “Never forgotten” and “Always remember” and a third with symbols of the RCMP. Each poster carried handprints and the names of all of the children.

The youngsters took part in a parade at Slemon Park and released three balloons one each in honour of the fallen RCMP officers.

Day care supervisor Savannah Silvana said the children are learning that police officers are their friends and people they can rely on. Someone they can turn to in times of need.

“We talked about the things that happened,” Silvana said. “We try to teach the kids how police protect us.”

She said one student asked why the man killed the police officers. And they discussed how the police risk their own safety by trying to protect the people.

Asked who is looking after the three fallen police officers now, several children said “the angels.”
