WOODSTOCK -- The union local representing educational assistants in Prince Edward Island got so caught up in fundraising for this year’s Rotary Easter Seals campaign that when all the money was added together the membership dipped a little deeper to come up with a contribution matching its union local.

Brenda Deagle, Western vice-president of Local Number 3260 announced a contribution of $3,260 when locals took turns stepping to the mike at CUPE PEI’s 34th annual convention Friday.

Their contributions will go a long way to helping Rotary Easter Seals achieve its $130,000 goal said Summerside Rotarian Bill Kendrick.

Beaming at the head of the room as the numbers were announced was Easter Seals ambassador Brett Robinson who had earlier moved some members to tears during his speech to the convention.

The contribution from 12 locals totaled $5,560. The National office matched that total and then some, for a total CUPE contribution of $11,560.
