23-year-old facing numerous charges
SOURIS - A local man is in custody following an assault on two members of the RCMP, after they responded to a disturbance complaint from a Souris business at 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
Both officers sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
The male was restrained and placed in a police vehicle with the assistance of an off duty Halifax Regional Police officer and two males who were passing by and stopped to assist.
The man is remanded until May 20th at 9:30 a.m., when he will appear in Charlottetown Court. He faces two charges of Resisting Arrest, a charge of Causing a Disturbance, two charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, two charges of Uttering Threats to Damage Property, and two charges of Uttering Threats to the officers involved.
An assault on a police officer is a serious offence which is relatively rare in Prince Edward Island. These cases have the potential for serious injuries to the offender, and/or the officers involved.
RCMP expressed gratitude, in the press release, for the assistance of both the off duty Halifax Regional Police Officer and the citizens who assisted, which contributed to this incident being resolved without any serious injuries.
