Souris West man facing Impaird Driving charges after stop at checkpoint

Kings District RCMP stop driver at 12:45 a.m. May 18 on Highway #2 in Rollo Bay

SOURIS - A Souris West man was apprehended for Impaired Driving at a checkstop  early Sunday morning.

The 19-year-old S man will face charges of Impaired Driving and Driving over 80 mgs/100 ml, after being stopped by members of the Kings District RCMP at a checkpoint on Highway #2 in Rollo Bay at 12:45 am on May 18th, 2014. 

Officers observed an open box of beer in the vehicle and the driver failed a roadside screening test.  The man was taken to the Souris RCMP office where he provided breath samples well over the 80 mgs/100 ml blood-alcohol limit. The man was held in custody overnight and released the following morning. He is scheduled to appear in Georgetown Court on Thursday July 17th at 9:30 am to answer to impaired driving related charges. In conjunction with Canada Road Safety Week 2014, May 13 to 19, the Kings District RCMP have stepped up the number of checkpoints and other enforcements, to apprehend or deter motorists who may drive while impaired or commit other infractions.    newsroom@journalpioneer.com
