ALBERTON -- The Perley Hardy house will soon be disappearing from the lot in front of Alberton Town Hall. Alberton Council approved the lowest bid Monday night for the demolition of the house.
This house, situated on a lot in front of the Alberton Town Hall, will soon be demolished. The town purchased the property last fall but did not receive any offers when it tendered it for sale. Monday night council voted to accept the lowest bid for having the house demolished.
Kildare Construction will tear down the house at a cost to the town of $3,850.
The town purchased the property, which included a house and outbuilding, last November for $60,000 plus transaction and legal fees. It subsequently offered the buildings for sale by tender and accepted a $250 offer for the outbuilding and its contents. It has since been removed from the property. There were no offers for the house, though, so council called for tenders to have it demolished.
