The city anticipates that parks and green spaces will be officially opened as early as Monday, May 5.
The city’s first priority during the cleanup is to ensure the safety of all outdoor facilities and green space.
Now that the majority of the snow has melted city crews are better able to access community parks, playgrounds and other outdoor facilities to conduct safety inspections. The replacement of boardwalk timbers, addressing tree safety issues, repairs to benches and picnic tables and other winter damage is a major focus of our activities.
Once park and green spaces safety and maintenance have been addressed, the city will turn its attention to cleanliness and beautification. Crews are currently out picking up litter and garbage, initially focusing on the downtown area, the boardwalk/waterfront, and the grounds outside Credit Union Place.
City staff will work on activities such as planting flowerbeds, hanging flower baskets and pruning trees.
Other spring cleanup” activities to get the city ready for summer include: Turf field maintenance start up, graffiti removal, ball park start up, bench placement, tennis and volley ball net installation, lawn and turf maintenance throughout the city, ball field rolling, waste can placement, damaged sign replacement and tree maintenance.
