The RCMP hopes to soon learn the identity of a person found on the shoreline on the eastern side of the North River.

"The Coroner's Office assisted by Queens RCMP continues to work on the identification of the found individual," said an update issued at 3:15 p.m. Monday. "There is no further new information at this time. (The) next update is not anticipated to be until tomorrow, April 22nd at the earliest."

“As always, we have to do a complete investigation with the main priority being to identify the person,’’ says RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler.

Queens RCMP and the Charlottetown Police Services responded to a call from the public at 1:36 p.m. Sunday.

A body had been located on the shoreline at the end of the Hurry Road.

An autopsy was scheduled for this morning at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Butler noted police have been looking for two missing people for several months.

John Ward, 60, of Charlottetown was reported missing on Dec. 23 by a close friend. The friend told police Ward had not been seen for 10 days which “was out of character for Mr. Ward.’’

Nothing in the police investigation to date suggests foul play.

In November, police received a call shortly after 10 p.m. of a suspicious male on the North River causeway that resulted in the RCMP finding some clothing, leading them to suspect a person had gone into the river.

Dianne Young would later identify the clothing as belonging to her son, Lennon Waterman.

She told The Guardian a few days after Waterman disappeared that she believes her son chose to end a life damaged by drug addiction by leaping into the cold water,

Young has since been speaking out urging the province to provide additional and improved services for Islanders struggling with addictions.
