ALBERTON -- Access to Western Hospital, normally available from three streets, is down to just one street Wednesday. The Poplar and Argyle Street entrances are closed due to flooding. That leaves the hospital accessible only by Albion Street, off Church Street.
Water flow exiting the town pond behind Save Easy exceeded what the culvert could handle by late Tuesday, causing the pond to overflow Poplar Street between Main Street and the hospital. The volume leaving the pond was so great that the marsh area between Poplar and Argyle Streets filled up and flowed over Argyle as well.
Barricades are in place on both streets.
Highways crews across the province are dealing with flooding issues today because of the heavy spring melt on Tuesday and the heavy rainfall overnight and into Wednesday.
