12th annual event planned for May 4

Hospice PEI will be hosting the 12th annual Hike for Hospice at venues across PEI on May 4.

Cindy and Keegan Murphy will be joining the 12th annual Hike for Hospice, on May 4, in memory of husband and father Mark Murphy.

Events are scheduled for the Alberton Train Station, Shipyard Market in Summerside, Cotton Centre in Stratford, and the CN Park in Souris.  The walk on PEI is part of the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association's national Hike for Hospice event.

Registration at all sites will be at 1:30 p.m., with the hikes starting at 2:00 p.m.  Registration fee is $10.

This year's honourary chairman for Queens Region is Keegan Murphy.  Keegan raised the most money for Hospice PEI in the 2013 walk, and he's looking forward to another successful effort this year.  He and his mom, Cindy, will walk again on May 4th in memory of his dad, Mark.

Several venues will honour local residents with their event.

The Souris hike will honour four musicians who contributed so much to the community: Elmer Deagle, Joe Christian, Lemmie Chaisson and Mark MacPhee.

The Alberton hike will honour Julia Fielding, a hospice volunteer, and Carolyn Gavin.  Both women were very important to the hospice family in West Prince

In Summerside, hikers will honour the memory of Viney Champion, a longtime hospice volunteer who passed away last spring.
