KENSINGTON – A decade’s worth of 50/50 draws have finally paid off for Kensington’s Fitplex.
Located in the Community Gardens Complex, the Fitplex public gym closed between March 25-29 to allow for new equipment to be installed.
The machines were purchased with money raised over 10 years by the Malpeque Bay Credit Union, which has been banking the money for the gym all this time.
The end result is $30,000 in new workout gear for Fitplex.
The former workout machines were pushing a decade old and were in need of replacement. So it was time for a change, said Mayor Gordon Coffin, who is also an employee of the credit union.
“We are really happy to present the new equipment to the community,” he said.
A grand reopening has been scheduled for this Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Fitplex. Everyone is welcome to come check out the new gear and have some healthy snacks.
As part of the reopening, the gym will be free to use for the week from April 12 to April 18.
The gym is also offering a three-month membership for $75 until April 30th.
It will also be temporarily extending its business hours, with one extra hour on Friday and opening Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
