ALBERTON – 171…150…70…59…177. The number of Maritime Electric customers without power was dropping steadily throughout the day on Thursday until a new outage in O’Leary Thursday afternoon shot the number of affected customers back up to 177.

Downed power lines in West Prince.

Kim Griffin, spokesman for the utility, said Maritime Electric now believes it can have all of its customers back on by midnight tonight. The possible exception to that, she said, might be seasonal customers where no one is currently living and where access is an issue.

Customers are asked to call Maritime Electric’s call centre at 1-800-670-1012 to report outages or to inquire about the approximate time their service will be restored.
