Journal Pioneer’s Works nominated for AJA

SUMMERSIDE – Brad Works, managing editor of the Journal Pioneer, has been nominated for an Atlantic Journalism Award.

Works has been recognized in the ‘Best Page Presentation: Newspaper’ category for his design of ‘RBC Cup: It's Playoff Time.’ The work was the front page of Journal Pioneer on May 18, 2013, during the RBC Cup, the national junior A hockey championships hosted by Summerside last spring.

Also nominated are Mike Landry and Sonja Schrick of the Telegraph-Journal – Saint John, N.B.; and Nadine Fownes – The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, N.S.

The nomination is the second in the category for Works who won the Silver Award at the 2009 Atlantic Journalism Awards while with the Amherst Daily News. He is also winner of the Best Special Section at the Atlantic Community Newspapers Association 2009 Better Newspapers Competition.

The Guardian also received a nomination for this year’s awards. Brian McInnis, Nigel Armstrong, Jocelyne Lloyd and Wayne Thibodeau were nominated for their work on the Stanhope Beach Resort Fire in the ‘Online News Reporting’ category.

This year’s awards will be presented during the gala dinner and awards event at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel on Saturday, May 10.
