SUMMERSIDE - Downtown Summerside will be setting the direction it will take for the enhancement of the city’s traditional retail core shopping district during it’s annual general meeting set for Monday, March 31 at the Loyalist Lakewood Resort at 7 p.m.

Downtown Summerside will receive $73,000, including $25,000 in one-time funding, to supplement their Business Improvement Levy for the Business Improvement Area (BIA).

Traditionally, the BIA's budget is made up of a property assessment levy on the membership of 18 cents per $100 of assessment and a grant of $48,000 from the city totaling about $120,000.

Monday’s meeting will be discussing ways to get the most benefit from the funding.

“We’ll be discussing what we presented to the city and the response we got in the budget, Monday night,” said Pam Schurman-Montgomery the organization’s executive director. “We will be discussing future plans for progress in the downtown.”

The group is gaining momentum after being inactive for a while.

Schurman-Montgomery and Downtown Summerside president, Reasha Walsh will be hosting their first AGM. As well, there will some new directors named at Monday’s meeting.
