Fire destroyed a house in Cymbria Wednesday night, several hours into the worst storm of the season.
The sole occupant of the house was able to get out and huddled in her car until help arrived.
New Glasgow Fire Chief Jason Peters said today a plow was eventually able to reach the woman and transported her to a neighbour's house where she was given shelter.
So ferocious were weather conditions at the time that three hours after leaving the fire hall firefighters were still not able to reach the fire and had to turn back.
Peters said he has never experienced anything like the conditions they tried to navigate their way through.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
