SUMMERSIDE – The City of Summerside has received a 2014 Lucky Loonie from the Royal Canadian Mint commemorating the gold medal winning performance of Summerside’s Heather Moyse in the two-women’s bobsleigh event at the Sochi Olympic Games.

Summerside Deputy Mayor Bruce MacDougall displays the Luck Loonie given to the city by the Royal Canadian Mint in honour of the gold medal winning performance of Summerside’s Heather Moyse in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games

The Lucky Loonie is in recognition of the support the community gave Moyse during her run to repeat as an Olympic gold medalist.

“Olympic success belongs to each and everyone in our communities including coaches, teachers, families and friends and countless others who have supported the achievements, talent and commitment of our Canadian athletes as they represented Canada at the Sochi 1024 Olympic Winter Games,” wrote Royal Canadian Mint president and CEO Ian Bennett in a presentation to the city.

“This coin will remain a special way for Canadians from coast to coast to coast to proudly remember the Canadian Olympic Team’s accomplishments at the games,” he said.

The city will display the coin at city hall.
