CENTRAL BEDEQUE – After two solid days full of nothing but voting or thinking about voting, David MacDonald is just about ready for a nap.

But there’s no rest on the road to Hockeyville.

The latest round of voting in the 2014 edition of the Kraft Hockeyville competition wrapped up at 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Now there is nothing for the community to do but wait and listen for the results during Hockey Night in Canada on March 15.

MacDonald and his colleagues on the Bedeque Area Recreation Centre board of directors have been overwhelmed by the support they’ve been given across the Island.

Many businesses and homeowners in the surrounding area even got on board by putting up signs encouraging people to vote.

Whatever happens next Saturday, it’s been a great ride, said MacDonald.

“The support we’ve had from the community has just been just unreal. We had a lot of people that came to our community celebration (Sunday). Twitter, Facebook - people have just been voting non-stop. It’s been great,” he said.

On behalf of everyone who has been working behind the scenes, MacDonald said they would like to say thanks for all the support.

The Central Bedeque rink is currently on the list of 16 communities nationwide who are still in the running for Hockeyville. This level has ensured them $25,000 in funding for upgrades.

Saturday’s announcement will narrow the semi-finalists down to four communities, two from each coast. These rinks also receive $50,000.

The national winner receives $100,000, a chance to be featured on CBC, and a NHL pre-season game.

If the Bedeque rink wins the top prize, the organizing committee has already arranged for the NHL pre-season game to be played at Credit Union Place in Summerside, as their facility is not equipped to hold such an event.
