CHARLOTTETOWN – As part of Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, farmers and rural communities are encouraged to talk about farm safety practices, says Agriculture and Forestry Minister George Webster.

Agriculture and Forestry Minister George Webster

“Farm injuries can be emotionally and economically devastating to producers and their families but most injuries are predictable and preventable if producers, farm managers and farm hands know what to look for and how to control hazards around the farm,” he said. “During Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, I encourage all farm operators to review their farming practices to ensure the safety of everyone involved on the farm.”

Across Canada, the National Farm Safety Week campaign is delivered by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association in partnership with Farm Credit Canada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada during the third week of March.

In Prince Edward Island, producers can learn more about farm safety through programs offered by the Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture.

The farm safety program is provided with financial support from the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
