Best Wishes book filling up for Island Olympians

SUMMERSIDE - Traffic has been steady, at the registration desk of Credit Union Place, to sign best wishes in a book of support for Island athletes competing at the Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Summerside native Heather Moyse competes in bobsleigh at the Olympics, while Billy Bridges, also from Summerside, and Mark Arendz, from Springton, compete in the Paralympics. Bridges competes in sledge hockey, while Arendz is in para-nordic skiing.

One young fan, Karley McCourt, signed on Saturday evening, just before leaving the pool with some friends.

"They all signed when we were coming in, but I decided to just go in (to the pool) and sign after," she said, thankful for being reminded about it before they left.

"She needs all the support," she said, thinking of Moyse, whose picture is displayed by the book.

Two of her friends, Lana and Jane Gillis, were proud to have signed in at two different times, adding thoughts they hadn't considered initially.

The best-wishes book will be available until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, February 9, at the registration desk in the main lobby of Credit Union Place.
