ST. EDWARD -- Two people were transported to Prince County Hospital for treatment of what are believed to be minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision on the Union Road in St. Edward Wednesday morning.

West Prince RCMP investigating officer, Const. Greg Thomas described the collision as part head on, part sideswipe as the vehicles were meeting. He said ice near the shoulder of the road had the female driver of a 2003 Toyota Corolla and the male driver of a 2009 GMC Sierra driving their vehicles near the center of the road. They were the lone occupants of the vehicles. As they rounded a curve in the road one of the vehicles crossed the centerline. Just prior to impact, Thomas said both drivers swerved their vehicles to the right in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid a collision.

Both vehicles were written off, Const. Thomas reported. He does not anticipate charges.

Miminegash Fire Department, Island EMS and West Prince RCMP responded to the 10 a.m. incident.
