Prince County RCMP issue $33,825 in seatbelt fines

SUMMERSIDE - Reducing the number of serious injuries and deaths in vehicle crashes by increasing the seatbelt usage rate by motorists in P.E.I. is an RCMP province -wide priority.

RCMP issue set belt fines

 

Officers are focusing on both enforcement and education in having citizens wear their seatbelts.

In Prince District RCMP issued 123 seatbelt tickets for a total of $33, 825 in fines from April to December of 2013.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, the fine for failing to wear a seatbelt is $275.00 and a loss of three points on a driver's license.
