PORT HILL -- They might not have known it at the time, but music fans at Summerside’s Eastlink Arena Thursday night got a sneak preview of what to expect this summer at the Rock the Boat Music Fest at Green Park.

The Tyne Valley Oyster Festival, host of Rock the Boat, officially announced Friday morning that Jim Cuddy and Blue Rodeo will be the festival’s headline act on August 2.
They join previously announced acts, Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, Jimmy Rankin, Alan Doyle and Meaghan Blanchard.
Oyster Festival president Jeff Noye attended the show at Credit Union Place Thursday night and declared it “phenomenal.”
“They’re really excited to come,” he said. “Jim Cuddy is a big oyster fan.”
Noye said organizers deliberately held off until after the Summerside show to announce their headliner just to add to the excitement.
Blue Rodeo, he said, resisted spilling the beans in Summerside but advised fans they’d be back on the Island soon.
Blue Rodeo is described on the Rock the Boat Facebook page as one of the most successful and well known contemporary Canadian bands. They’ve earned several Canadian music awards, including seven Junos and seven SOCAN awards.
Noye said organizers will be adding one more P.E.I. performer to the festival lineup in due course. “Acts are banging down the door trying to get that last spot,” he said of the excitement the new festival is generating in the Island’s music industry.
