In a press release Myers points out that the past fiscal year ended nearly ten months ago, making the release of the statements long overdue.
“This delaying action by the treasurer means that the last available audited accounting of the province’s books ends on March 31, 2012,” he said.
“This 22 month gap in public disclosure and checks and balances on the Treasurer is unacceptable.”
“The Ghiz government is entrusted with management of Islanders’ own money. The money in the Treasurer’s hands came from the wallets and purses of all Islanders, and I think he has forgotten this fact,” he added. “Fiscal accountability is a key part of respecting Islanders and their families.”
