Deputy Mayor Bruce MacDougall, chairman of the financial services committee, told council Monday night, that one of the key factors in helping elected officials set pout their priorities for the upcoming fiscal year will come from public consultation.

“The finance committee is in the process of finalizing the 2013 budget operations results and the division is supporting council in the development of the 2014 budget,” MacDougall said. “Just prior to the holiday season, financial services competed a very successful public consultation process for the city’s 2014 budget. Members of the public and city staff participated in a town hall session in early December and became quite engaged in discussions regarding priorities for 2014.”

He said the public process was a productive one and hopes to have others in the future.

“We’re quite pleased with the input on the budget and gearing feedback on the priorities for the upcoming year. This information is quite helpful as council starts to discuss and debate budget priorities.”

The budget will be presented at the city’s annual meeting set for Monday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
