Fireworks at the Rodd Mill River Resort were a highlight of the Winter Blast outdoor concert event Saturday evening, part of the Up West Winterfest which concludes Sunday.
There were between one and two hundred persons in the audience for the 6 - 9 p.m. outdoor concert event, ranging from babies in strollers to those whose snow-white hair reflected the surroundings of the venue.
It was billed as a family event and lived up to the promotion. Many in the audience moved to the music, more in enjoyment than an exercise to keep warm as the temperature hovered around zero degrees. A steady flow of people, between the concert site and the Rodd Mill River Resort, where there was a warm-up room as well as a lounge with hockey on the large screen, kept the concert audience regularly refreshed.
The outdoor concert was followed by a fireworks display and an adult-only after party in the resort. Sunday's final Up West Winterfest events include activities at the Rodd Mill River Resort, ice fishing in Alberton, hockey development camps in Tignish, and the Winterfest Brunch, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Rodd Mill River Resort.
