ALBERTON -- Alberton Town Council approved a permit Monday for the demolition of the old Maplewood Manor.
The work on the project has already begun.
In supporting the permit application, councilor Natasha Dunn sought assurances that the work would be carried out safely. Dunn expressed concerns about asbestos, as well as lead and mercury, in the building.
âHave residents being informed of the removal procedure for the asbestos in the manor,â she asked, reminding council there needs to be a continuous drizzle applied to it while it is being removed so as to prevent it from becoming air-borne.
âWe need proof thatâs going to be taken care of,â she insisted, suggesting it would be nice to get some response from the contractor.
Mayor Michael Murphy said the town will seek assurance from the Department of Public Works that the work is being carried out safely.
