PORT HILL --The Tyne Valley Oyster Festival committee is content to let the suspense build a little more before announcing the headline act for its August 2 Rock the Boat Music Festival.
Oyster Festival president Jeff Noye announced four acts on November 28 and was planning to announce the headliner prior to Christmas. The festival committee subsequently reconsidered that and Noye said the announcement will now be made either January 31 or February 1. The act, he said, has already been booked, confirming only that it is a band.
Already announced for the festival, which will be held at Green Park in Port Hill, are Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys, Alan Doyle, Jimmy Rankin and Prince Edward Island’s Meaghan Blanchard.
In addition to the headliner, Noye said one or two more Island names will likely be added to the program.
The festival chair said he and his committee are pleased with initial ticket sales. “We hit our goal for Christmas. We were happy with that.”
The festival, he said, has generated lots of buzz on social media and in the community. “I think everybody’s excited about the lineup, for sure.”
The Oyster Festival has received PEI 2014 funding to assist with hosting Rock the Boat. The music festival on August 2 starts right after the Oyster Festival’s annual parade.
Site work for the festival has been going on at Green Park since last summer.
