WOODSTOCK -- After more than three months of inactivity, the pool at the Rodd Mill River Resort and Aquaplex splashes back to life this Friday.

Mill River Aquaplex employee, Amber Arsenault checks temperature and water quality of the aquaplex pool on Thursday. The pool, which had been out of commission since early October awaiting the installation of a new boiler, reopens Friday, January 10.

And it comes just in time: the Rodd Resort starts accepting weekend guests this Friday and, of course, Up West Winterfest, which has events spread out around the Mill River complex and in the municipalities of O’Leary Tignish and Alberton, gets underway that day.

The pool was shut down the first week of October after the facility’s boiler quit. Resort manager Louise Arsenault said the resort searched out energy efficient boiler options and the new unit arrived last month.

“We got the boiler up and going last Saturday, so it’s been heating the pool ever since, and things seem to be working well,” Arsenault said. “We’ll be back in business with full regular hours January 10.”

It’s not just for resort guests’ benefits, though. The Aquaplex is open for business even when the resort isn’t open for guests. “We missed our guests and locals she said.

The loss of the boiler also impacted the aquaplex’s squash courts and gym area once the temperature started to drop.

The aquaplex is hoping to attract new and returning members, Arsenault noted.

The resort is now open weekends until March Break time, Then, during the P.E.I. School breaks it will be open full-time.

Arsenault indicated the resort has been busy preparing for the opening of both the pool and the resort. Winterfest, she reported, is generating considerable buzz locally and across the province, and that is contributing to additional room nights at the resort.

“We’ve got great events going on throughout our communities, and that’s what the Up West Winterfest is all about, to showcase western P.E.I. and to show them what we have,” said Arsenault. “We have such great communities and facilities in the area. We want everyone to come up and enjoy.”
