SUMMERSIDE – Approximately 80 households lost electricity Tuesday afternoon after a power line failed.

Josh King, Summerside Electrical Services, works to restore power to about 80 homes in the Glovers Shore area of the city. A power line broke Tuesday afternoon cutting service to the several homes and businesses.

Crews from the city’s Electrical Services Department were dispatched to the corner of Glovers Shore Road and Water Street to make repairs.

Lorri Laughlin, director of communications for the city, said the outage occurred because of a broken wire in the area. “The damage may be normal wear and tear or due to recent storms we have not way of knowing for sure,” she said. “Our crew is at the corner of Water Street and Glover Shore Road doing the repairs.” Work was needed to replace a damaged conductor. The outage affected Glovers Shore Road, Sharp, Marine Avenue, Whitecap Drive, Wedge Drive and a section of Water Street. The power was restored around 4 p.m. mcarson@journalpioneer.com
