ST. LOUIS -- Firefighters are still on the scene of a fire that destroyed a farm workshop in St. Louis this afternoon..
Helen Perry said her husband, Leo, opened the door to the workshop after lunch Friday and discovered it was filled with smoke. A John Deere farm tractor, one of two tractors in the building, was on fire, she said.
Firefighters spent the afternoon fighting the blaze, the wind and the cold, successfully preventing it from spreading to the nearby house and livestock barn.
Mrs. Perry said the house was only about 50 feet away and the wind just kept baffling around.
Even though the RCMP closed the Union Road in front of the Perry property to traffic, Mrs. Perry said there were lots of people around. “Everybody was good to help,” she reported.
The road has subsequently been reopened to traffic but visibility remains poor due to drifting snow.
