Tessa Buchanan has energy to burn these days. She went snowshoeing today and she has every intention of starting off the New Year by taking a polar bear dip.

She recently completed a half-marathon, on her own, and is considering registering for a half-marathon race next year. She is already registered for a six-kilometer Mud Hero run next July.

Buchanan proudly credits Weight Watchers with helping her to change her life around and to gain energy in the process.

Last month the 27 year-old Mill River East woman was flown to Toronto, guest of Entertainment Tonight Canada, where she was treated to a professional make-over. That “big reveal” happens during tonight’s episode of Entertainment Tonight Canada on Global (7:30 p.m.).

The only part of the big reveal that Buchanan is willing to give away ahead of time is that which she has been sporting since she returned home. Her hair “has gone from long and blond to short and red,” she revealed.

“I love it,” she said, admitting she has already freshened it up.” She can’t wear the new wardrobe until after tonight’s episode and admitted she is looking forward to the opportunity to wear it again.

Buchanan’s transformation started long before her trip to Toronto. When she joined Weight Watchers on May 30, 2011 she said she was surprised to learn her weight had climbed to 290 pounds. She would lose 126 pounds over the next 16 months and has successfully maintained that weight since then through eating right and physical exercise.

“I’m a believer in Weight Watchers,” she confirmed.

The timing of tonight’s ET Canada episode is intentional, Buchanan admits, just before New Years and the traditional setting of New Year’s resolutions. She is the third Weight Watchers participant to be featured on ET Canada since Christmas. As proud as she is in her own weight loss, Buchanan said she is thrilled about being featured in a program that might inspire others to lose weight. “Whether it’s 100 pounds or 20 to lose, it’s still weight to be lost,” she said. “It can be done.”
