ALBERTON -- Registrations are now being accepted from anyone interested in participating in this winter’s experimental winter trout fishery.

The P.E.I. Bait Fishers Group has arranged for experimental fisheries to be held on the Town Pond in Alberton, Barlow’s Pond in Wellington and Park Side Pond in Stratford on the weekends of January 18 and 19, February 1 and 2, February 8 and 9 and February 22 and 23. The ponds were stocked for the occasion in mid-November.

Only 75 people can be accommodated at each pond on each day of the fishery, thus the reason for early registration. Names for each weekend fishery must be submitted prior to 4 p.m. on the Thursday prior to that weekend. The actual draw for the 75 weekend participants will be held on the Friday (for example, January 17 for the January 18 and 19 fishery), and the names of the individuals who will be permitted to fish that weekend will be posted on the Bait Fishers’ Group website. Although no licence is required to participate in the fishery, there is a $5.00 registration fee for each date interested fishermen enter their names in the draws.

Registrations for the respective winter fisheries are being accepted at Alberton Town Hall, Wellington Esso and Going Fishing in Charlottetown.

The experimental fishery was made possible with funds from the Prince Edward Island Wildlife Conservation Fund and the communities that own the ponds.
