TIGNISH -- Tignish Village Council wants residents to stop pushing snow out their driveways and across their streets.
Street Committee chairman Joey Carragher explained during the December meeting of council that the practice makes it difficult for plow operators to see the sidewalks and the sidewalks get torn up.
Carragher added that the property owners sometimes leave ridges of snow on their streets while they are clearing their driveways which creates a dangerous situation for passing motorists.
Council chairman, Allan McInnis said the practice is actually illegal and plows could sustain damage or lose control from running into a pile of heavy, packed snow. He said he would be alerting staff at the Highways office in Alma of council’s concern.
