CHARLOTTETOWN — Papers Lions and Ashley Condon lead the list nominees for the 13th annual Music P.E.I. Awards.

Montague singer-songwriter Ashley Condon, left, performs during the Music Mosaic ceremony alongside Caroline Bernard on accordion. Condon took home two early P.E.I. Music Awards at the ceremony.

The nominees were announced at a press conference Thursday, where there was a rundown of all nominees in all categories, including music industry awards.

The event took place at the P.E.I. Brewing Company in Charlottetown and featured entertainment by Ryan Merry, DJ Whaleksin, and Yakbak, a cover band featuring members of Coyote.

“The list of nominees for the Music P.E.I. Awards once again demonstrates not only the diversity but also the high calibre of music being created here on P.E.I.,” said Culture Minister Robert Henderson, who took part in the announcements.

Paper Lions lead the nominations with seven, while Condon, an emerging folk singer/songwriter, had six nominations, including Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.

The awards will be handed out at various events throughout Credit Union Music P.E.I. Week 2014, capped off with the 13th Annual Music P.E.I. Awards Gala Feb. 1.

This year will be the debut of the awards gala in the brand new P.E.I. Convention Centre in the Delta Prince Edward Hotel. Hosting this year’s Gala is well-known Island comedian and storyteller, Patrick Ledwell.

Tickets for the gala are on sale now via Ticketpro.ca.

Music P.E.I. Week is the largest annual celebration of the music made on P.E.I. by Islanders. The awards gala has sold out the previous few years, so fans are encouraged to get their tickets early.
