PRINCE COUNTY – A 21-year-old Prince County man has pleaded guilty to negligence causing bodily harm to a three-month-old infant.

The Crown dropped a second charge of assault causing bodily harm.

A pre-sentence report has been ordered in this case. The man will be back in court Feb. 11, 2014, for facts and sentencing.

The identity and home community of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

The man was charged in early August after a lengthy investigation by Prince County RCMP, which started in June.

Police were alerted to the situation when a family member brought the child into Prince County Hospital. Subsequent X-rays revealed there were several broken bones.

Once the extent of the injuries were determined doctors decided to move the child to the IWK hospital in Halifax.

Police have said the baby has since recovered from its wounds.

The man and child are known to each other.
