CHARLOTTETOWN – NDP leader Mike Redmond says he’s enthusiastic about federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair’s announcement today of a comprehensive NDP energy vision.
Island NDP leader Mike Redmond.
It’s a vision he says, based on partnership, sustainability, and long-term prosperity.
“Everything in the NDP energy platform is good for the economy of Prince Edward Island,” said Redmond.
The NDP energy platform includes a new cap and trade program, investment in clean energy, and more affordable energy rates for all Canadians.
“Cap and trade will reward Islanders for our investments in renewable energy. We will be better funded to establish our own renewable energy infrastructure. These NDP policies will lead to economic growth, more jobs, and a better standard of living for Islanders”, added Redmond.
The NDP plan also includes the re-establishment of the home energy retrofit program to replace the program cancelled by the federal Conservatives in 2012.
“The retrofit program will help Island families make ends meet. It will conserve energy. And it will put money in the pockets of business people and workers in the Island’s trades and construction sectors,” concluded Redmond.
