Fisherman fined $5,000

SUMMERSIDE - A Sea Cow Pond fisherman was fined $5,000 in provincial court, Tuesday, for fishing lobster in a closed area.


Leo Dorgan pleaded guilty to charges that between Sept. 3 and Oct. 4 he fished in a closed fishing area.

On. Sept. 3 fisheries seized nine traps belonging to Dorgan and again, in the same area, on Oct. 4 confiscated six additional traps also traced back to the accused.

Desmond Arsenault of Abram Village pleaded to catching undersized lobster.

Fisheries officers confiscated 17 short lobster from Arsenault’s catch.

Judge Jeff Lantz fined Arsenault $1,700.

James Knox of St. Felix and Terry MacLean of Winsloe were each fined $1,300 for using female rock crabs as bail for fishing lobster.

It is illegal to use rock crabs as bait.
