DOCK – Local farmers are assisting West Prince fire departments by hauling water to help fight a major fire at a dairy farm in Dock, a small community between Elmsdale and Alberton.
Neighbours indicate there were about 70 milk cows as well as young cattle in the barn when the fire started over the noon hour Friday. Farm workers had fought the fire with fire extinguishers but were unable to douse the flames.
It is believed most of the farm animals perished in the inferno.
The farm is owned by Kent Rennie.
Strong wind was fuelling the fire and smoke was pouring directly onto the two-story home in the farmyard, owned and occupied by his parents, Fred and Eva Rennie.
Departments from West Point to Tignish were on the scene and a steady stream of trucks, including farm trucks were hauling water.
