SUMMERSIDE – Fandango Musical Players Inc. is looking for Jesus – and it would help if he had a nice singing voice.
The Summerside-based theatre company is putting out a casting call for its latest production, “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
The group is aiming for a May 8, 9 and 10 run at the Summerside Harbourfront Theater in 2014.
They chose this show because of its universal popularity, said Sandra McNeill, with Fandago
“It’s very popular – I think pretty much everybody knows about, seen it or knows something about it. And in 2004 a bunch of us were involved in the same musical with ACTpei, and it was a sell-out every night. It was very very popular and a moneymaker too,” said McNeill.
For anyone who might not be familiar with the play, it’s essentially a retelling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, set to a rock theme.
The lyrics are by Tim Rice and the music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
“It’s an emotional show, especially for Christian people. If anybody likes rock and roll they are going to love listening to this … it will be entertaining for sure,” said McNeill.
Anyone who would like to audition for the show can do so at the McNeill Mall in Summerside on Nov. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.; and Nov. 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Bookings are required so anyone who would like to audition is asked to contact McNeill at: email@example.com or call her 439-4093.
There are no prerequisites for volunteers, however, previous acting and singing experience is an asset.
