STRATFORD – RCMP officers here had to use a Taser to disarm a man who alleged came at an officer with two samurai swords on Wednesday.
"This could have had disastrous consequences," said Const. Michael Lutley.
"We train for these situations and then it happens for real. Family disturbances can often get extremely heated especially when alcohol and tempers flair."
RCMP had been called to the home for a family disturbance – which deteriorated rapidly.
Once the suspect, holding a sword in each hand, advanced on the officer, he was shocked with the stun weapon and arrested.
A forty-year-old male was taken into custody without further incident.
The RCMP investigation is continuing with criminal charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting arrest pending.
The suspect is still in custody.
