Premier Robert Ghiz tells reporters at a Thursday news conference that Tignish-Palmer Road MLA Hal Perry will be joining the Liberal caucus.
Liberal Premier Robert Ghiz called a surprise news conference this morning to make the announcement. Media was told about the floor crossing at 10:15 a.m. at the Coles Building library in Charlottetown.
"He will be an important ally in making our case to Ottawa," Ghiz told those assembled.
The decision, Perry said, took a great deal of thought and consideration. He said he's heard from his constituents that they feel the federal Conservative government has turned its back on the region.
"In my opinion, I can do a better job for Tignish-Palmer Road as a member of the Liberal caucus," he said.
“I am pleased to join the Liberal caucus and address concerns in regards to the employment insurance reforms. This is a major issue facing my community and the province,” Perry added.
“I would like to welcome Mr. Perry to the Liberal Caucus," said the premier. "He
adds a strong understanding of the federal reforms to employment insurance and its effects in our province.
“I look forward to having Mr. Perry continue to be a strong advocate for the constituents of Tignish-Palmer Road.”
