O’LEARY – The Eastern Canadian men’s intermediate C fastpitch championship comes down to one winner-take-all game here on Sunday.
The game between the O’Leary Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles and Charlottetown Cardinals will be played on Ellis Field at 5 p.m.
Sunday’s game finishes off the Eastern Canadian tournament that was started in O’Leary two weeks ago. All round-robin games were completed, but rain washed out the playoff round.
Under the rules of the tournament, the top team in round robin would be declared the champion.
The Eagles, the tournament’s two-time defending champions, and the Cardinals both finished round-robin play with 4-0 (won-lost) records, and the Eagles had first place pinned down by a single run, according to the tiebreaking formula.
Because the two Island teams hadn’t met in the tournament, and both were undefeated, the teams agreed to play a sudden-death game for the title.
