CHARLOTTETOWN – There’s nothing quite like watching an artisan working with their hands and Islanders will get a chance to do just that this weekend.
The 15th annual P.E.I. Craft Council’s Studio Tour is this Saturday and Sunday.
Innovation Minister Allen Roach issued a press release on Friday inviting Islanders and visitors to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
“Prince Edward Island has a rich history and culture in creating some of the best craft, art and giftware items in the world,” said Roach.
“Our government is proud to partner with Island artists to promote the craft industry. We are encouraging people to visit Prince Edward Island studios this weekend to experience the quality craftsmanship and creativity of our artisans.”
This year, 53 studios and galleries are participating and are promoting a wide variety of items like pottery, jewellery, wood, metals, glass, visual art, textiles and many other handcrafted products.
Many sites around the province will have artisans hosting demonstrations throughout the weekend.
A 10 percent discount will also be available at most locations.
“On behalf of the P.E.I. Craft Council, I invite you come out and explore Island studios,” said Susana Rutherford, council president.
“Come meet our warm and talented artisans in their own spaces and share the story behind the craft. Our Island artisans are offering both the gift of their talent and time this weekend, so please come and share the experience with them.”
