KINKORA – The Young Millionaires Program closed a successful year in a special ceremony here last week.
Each year at this event young participants are asked to explain their businesses and how they operated. About 30 budding businesspeople took to the microphone at the ceremony.
“Every year the speeches are the highlight of the evening: always unique and often entertaining,” said Karen Duffy, provincial coordinator for the program.
“We have a workshop at the end of the program that is dedicated solely to public speaking. A representative from Toastmasters is invited to help facilitate the workshop and offer guidelines for speech preparation and delivery. It is truly amazing to see the participants create their speeches and deliver them with such poise and confidence.”
The Young Millionaires program has been active on P.E.I. since 1992. It gives children the experience of owning and running their own business.
This year the program had over 150 participants across PEI. Each region follows a curriculum designed by the program to teach the business basics, but the delivery agencies customize the meetings and selling events throughout the summer to the festivals and selling opportunities found in their own regions of the province.
