Break-ins, assault, thefts investigated
SUMMERSIDE — It was a busy weekend for city police, with arrests made in connection with a break-in, public intoxication, assault, resisting arrest and thefts from vehicles.
On Friday, Summerside police received a complaint of a break and enter into an Autumn Street home where rings were stolen.
Police arrested a 20-year-old city man in connection with the crime. He has been charged with breaking and entering and trafficking property obtained by crime.
The stolen property has been recovered and the man will appear in Summerside provincial court at a later date.
Also on Friday, police responded to a 911 complaint of a domestic dispute in the First Street area. As a result of their investigation, police have charged a 50 year-old Summerside man with assault and uttering threats on his common-law girlfriend. The woman was not injured and the man will appear in court at a later date.
Early Saturday morning, police arrested a 26-year old Summerside man for being drunk in a public place. A small amount of cannabis resin was found on the man, who is also charged with drug possession. He will appear in court at a later date.
About 20 minutes later, police attempted to arrest a 24 year-old city woman for being intoxicated in public but she refused to co-operate, resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer. The officer wasn’t injured.
The woman faces charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and will appear in a Summerside court at a later date.
On Sunday, around 12:20 a.m., police responded to a complaint of a man and woman attempting to get into vehicles parked in the North Market Street area.
As a result of their investigation, police have charged a 39 year-old Summerside man with trespassing at night and he will appear in court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
