ALBERTON -- Alberton Council has given its assurance in principle that it will help fund the 2014 Up West Winterfest. Alberton, Tignish and O’Leary councils each contributed $1,500 to 2013 inaugural Winterfest and organizers are hoping for the same contribution from the municipalities for year two.
The 2014 Winterfest, is meant to be bigger and better than the first. The 2013 festival was assisted by a matching $4,500 contribution from the provincial government; next year’s gets a $25,000 contribution from the P.E.I. 2014 Fund, provided the municipalities do their part.
The second annual Winterfest is meant to be the official kick-off to P.E.I. 2014 activities in western P.E.I.
Organizers are planning activities for the three municipalities and the Rodd Mill River Resort and are hoping to make them big enough to attract visitors from across the province and beyond. Major hockey and curling events, as well as other activities, will be organized at local venues.
