SUMMERSIDE – A local man spent the weekend in jail after being arrested Friday on charges of assaulting a woman.
Summerside police charged the 50-year-old after being called to a disturbance on Chelsie Court at about 8:15 p.m. The man is accused of assaulting a 46-year-old woman. He was incarcerated at Prince County Jail until a hearing Monday.
Officers were also busy dealing with several noise complaints throughout the city over the Labour Day weeken and are investigating the damage to the windshields of two vehicles that were parked on Water Street.
In another damage incident, a 20-year-old Mount Pleasant man has been charged with mischief, after a vehicle on Commerce Crescent was damaged at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Also on Sunday, at about 12:30 a.m., an 18-year-old Summerside man was arrested and charged with damage to property after officers responded to a complaint of damage to the deck of a Bayview Drive business. The man also faces charges of possession of a narcotic under the Controlled Drug Substances Act.
Monday, at about 9 a.m., police responded to a complaint of break and enter into two large barns on Birchwood Drive. It appears nothing was taken and police are still investigating.
Officers responded to four vehicle collisions over the weekend. In one incident, where a vehicle struck a light pole in St. Paul's Church parking lot, a 53-year-old Belmont, Lot 16 man had to be transported to Prince County Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police responded to a disturbance outside of a Central Street business on Monday at about 1:30 a.m. where a 26-year-old woman complained about being assaulted by another woman.
On Friday, at about 11:30 p.m., police arrested a 46-year-old Summerside man for breaching a court order to have no contact with a woman. He was incarcerated and was to appear Monday in Summerside provincial court.
On Saturday morning at about 1:30 a.m., patrol officers arrested a 29-year-old Kildare Capes man and charged him with impaired driving after he was apprehended driving a vehicle on South Drive in Summerside. He will appear at a future date to answer to the charge in Summerside provincial court.
