ABRAM-VILLAGE – An Evangeline favourite will return to the stage to close out the Exposition agricole et le Festival acadien on Sunday night.
Chiquésa, a five-piece female band from the Evangeline Region, were known for their harmonies, unique rhythms and Acadian style, until they disbanded in 2007.
The group consists of Caroline Bernard on vocals, accordion and piano; Julie Arsenault on voice and guitar; Tanya Gallant on voice and percussion; Christina Gallant MacLean on voice and percussion; and Anastasia DesRoches on the violin.
"We are pleased to welcome Chiquésa to our closing show," said Eric Richard, president of the Exposition agricole et le Festival acadien. "We believe that the audience will be happy to hear the group that was so amazing when they performed on stage a few years ago. This will surely be an energetic show.”
The first part of Sunday’s closing ceremonies will feature several artists and dancers from the Evangeline region. Musical acts include a new group fronted by Bernard, as well as the singer-songwriter of the Festival’s theme song, Jeannita Bernard.
Dancers featured in the show include Les Claqueuses and Alex Arsenault, the Young Acadian dancers with their children , Les Pieds Rythmés and Geneviève Ouellette. All will dance to the tunes of Anastasia DesRoches.
The show will get underway 7 p.m. at the Evangeline Recreation Centre in Abram-Village.
